San Javier (Comuna 13)
Comuna 13 Graffiti Tour
Murals, hip-hop and outdoor escalators in Medellín's comeback neighborhood
Comuna 13 (San Javier) turned its hillside streets into an open-air gallery of murals, hip-hop and breakdance, linked by public outdoor escalators that drew nearly two million visits in 2025. Local guides, such as those trained by the Casa Kolacho hip-hop collective, explain the neighborhood's history of conflict and transformation.
Why we love it
- Walk the mural-lined alleys with a local guide
- Ride the outdoor escalators
- Catch street breakdance and try local snacks
Enjoy it safely
Go by day with a local guide rather than independently, stay on the main tour route, and keep your phone secure in the crowds. Ask your guide whether the escalators are running, since they had maintenance work into mid-2026.
